Operating Room Services
The department currently serves two operating rooms - OR - complexes.
The first is the main operating room complex located on the first floor
of the Davao Medical Center and is comprised of nine OR suites and one
post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). Surgical operation conducted by the
Surgery, ENT-HNS, Ophtalmology, OB-Gynecology, Orthopedics, Neurology
and Urology departments are entertained here.
The second operating room complex is located still on the first floor
but inside the Obstretics delivery room with one delivery table. This
is where uncomplicated cesarian sections during daytime, tubal ligations
and curettage are conducted.
The department also covers the Abulatory Surgery Program (ASP). This
program, started in June 1998 and is now in full swing.
Ward Services
Aside from administering anesthesia inside the operating romos, anesthesiologists
in DMC also respond to various ward calls. Most commonly, the residents
are called to the Radiology Section to sedate patients for close reduction
of fractures and for special angiograms. Emergency referrals for difficult
intubation and lumbar taps at the Emergency Room (ER) complex or in any
ward are also entertained.
The residents also respond to ward calls for control of seizures among
tetanus patients in the pediatric and internal medicine wards. A more
active role in acute pain management and chronic pain management, has
also been taken in by the residents. The department will launch Acute
Pain Service this year.
