1. Ward Assignment
- Residents will be assigned to sufficient number and variety of hospital
patients and attend to their medical requirements.
- Residents will be assigned to all the major branches of medicine and
their specialties (the later will only concern sections relevant to the
practice of Family and Community Medicine).
- They will be allowed to continue managing patients they treated at the
hospital, especially in reference to pediatric and medical cases.
2. Outpatient Department
- Residents will rotate in the OPD simultaneously with their rotation
in the different branches of medicine during their training.
3. Intensive Care Unit
- Residents will be assigned at the ICU to recognize and manage threatening
cardiovascular and respiratory conditions (corresponding to their skills
and competence resulting from their formal training), their complications
and any other life threatening emergencies.
- They must know how to interpret basic electrocardiographic tracings
to prepare them to evaluate serious conditions and complications of grave
significance.
- They must be knowledgeable on how to operate any apparatus at the ICU
specially those that will sustain life.
4. Operating Room
- Residents in Family and Community Medicine will be trained to do some
lesser procedures, which could be performed in communities having adequate
facilities where they will be assigned.
- Residents should be familiar with the rules and regulations of the operating
room especially on asepsis and sterility.
5. Emergency Room
- Residents will be trained to immediately evaluate, diagnose and give
on the spot management of emergency, medical, pediatric and other similar
cases within their competence.
- They will be trained on cardiovascular resuscitation and other life
support giving measures together with the steos to maintain life until
specialty assistance and facilities are available.
