History
Orthopedics in Davao Medical Center started as a section of General Surgery
during the time of the late Dr. Velasco. In 1984, Dr. Espiridion Reyes
initiated the creation of orthopedic as a department and became the first
chairman of the department. The other consultants were formed by Dr. Henry
Chua, Dr. Manalo Palabyab and Dr. Samson Peli. The department received
its first temporary accreditation by the Philippine Board of Orthopedics
in 1990. Through the effort of the consultants and residents with the
support of the hospital, the department attained its full accreditation
in 1999.
The department has its first graduates in 1991. Since then many are now
gainfully serving in their areas of practice Their accreditation as diplomats
further strengthen & reaffirmed the department's vision to produce
qualified surgeons for Mindanao
