Community Involvement Service Program
The Davao Medical Center - Department of Pediatrics aside from being
a venue for pediatric specialty training also takes part in various projects
geared towards community development and upliftment of its health situation.
One program which the department spearheaded was the establishment
of the Davao Medical Center as a breastfeeding hospital. Since April
1992 the hospital was accorded the recognition by the Department of
Health as a baby-friendly hospital.
The Department of Pediatrics is also involve in the different programs
of the Center of Wellness especially the Women and Child Protection
Unit. With the help of our new consultant the Pedia residents are now
actively participating in the care and rehabilitation of alledged physically
and sexually abused children whether admitted or referred to our center,
by different organizations.
Aside from the aforementioned projects, the Department is also involve
in the community programs of the local chapter of the Philippine Pediatric
Society like free clinics in Maligamot, Tibungco, Maa and other free clinics
sponsored by the different socio-civic organizations like the Human Development
advocates international and media.
Since January 1998, all senior residents in the department rotates in
their respective assignment as mandated by the Center for Health Development
Office - Southern Mindanao to augment their medical staff and to act as
a junior consultant to the Department of Pediatrics. New skills in pediatric
emergencies like intubation intraosseous and umbilical catheterization
were introduced to the residents of Mati. The Davao Medical Center residents
also contributed in the formation of management protocols for common pediatric
cases seen at the ER / Ward /OPD. We initiated the conduction of regular
conferences like weekly grand rounds, monthly audit and perinatology.
